[about]

As believers in Jesus, and as ones called to worship, Eric and Andrea have spent the last decade encouraging others to worship the one and only God. This site is a culmination of our worship leading experience, understanding of worship, and philosophy of ministry.

Writer and pastor Rick Warren, names worship as the first and primary purpose for our lives in his book The Purpose Driven Life. Additionally, Buddy Owens, a gifted writer and respected husband and father, wrote in his book The Way of a Worshiper (p.11)...

"Jesus said in John 4:23 that the Father is looking for worshipers. So if you are looking for God and you just can't seem to find him, then stop what you are doing and worship him–and he will come find you."
It is with these insights that Eric and Andrea try to point others to worship God above all other activities in life. Our belief is that all aspects of Christian life (including salvation, evangelism, and holiness) are outgrowths of our worship of Him. As we come before Him in spirit and truth (which embodies humility and reverence), He is faithful to respond to our seeking.

The Languages Of Worship

So focused on the spoken word, many Protestant Church has forgotten that worship encompasses our entire life, rather than just those few weekly moments of congregational singing.  Characteristics of early Christian worship such as community, praise, confession, and thanksgiving have been all but dismissed from some of our services.

In her book, Full Circle, Nena Bryans discussed the expanded four “languages” of worship.  The first and most familiar is the verbal language of worship which involves words that are spoken, sung, and prayed.  There is a sonic language of worship which involves sounds and silences, including music. There is a kinesthetic language of worship involving movement, gesture, posture, and motion.  And lastly, there is a visual language of worship involving the use of color and form in physical space.

We argue that the latter three are not fully-utilized in our worship today because of the overwhelming emphasis on the verbal language of worship.  We further argue later that we must engage a variety of these languages to effectively worship and teach in a relevant way to people in today’s American culture. These languages will be addressed throughout this site.

Knowing that some areas of this site are still in development, let us encourage you to return often. The following is a brief explaination of how the site is organized...

Sight – Our sight is one of only five senses that we can experience life. In this area, we discuss the importance, negelect, and challenge of the visual language of worship. We also discuss the goal of visual worship – "To stir up hunger for God."

Sound – Hearing is another of our five senses – it involves both the verbal and sonic languages of worship. This section focuses upon music and sound as a catalyst for worship.

Body – As well as engaging our senses, true worship engages our entire bodies. Read more about the kinesthetic language of worship and learn how our bodies can be offered as a spiritual sacrifice to God.

More – Finally, this site would not be complete without some resources such as downloadable reading journals, papers on vision and worship.

About – This option now redirects you to the ecpowell.online site which contains Eric's Ministry Profile, Resume, as well as Video and Audio clips of our live worship.
